Lee Bynum Ph.D.
Lee Bynum Ph.D. (they/them), Senior Consultant, has 20 years of nonprofit executive leadership experience and now serves as the Chief Education Officer at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, and previously held roles at the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Center for the Study of Ethnicity and Race at Columbia University, and founding artistic director of the Harmony Theatre Company.
Through their work with Dream Unfinished Orchestra, they developed funded partnerships with Lincoln Center, New York Public Radio, and the New York Public Library system, with content designed to showcase classical music as an instrument for social change. At Mellon, they supported numerous organizations, including Rice University Office of Diversity & Inclusion, and the creation of performing arts majors at several HBCUs.
Lee is a scholar of performance and race, and their research on classical music, concert dance, and theatre has been published by the university presses of Harvard, Oxford, Columbia, and NYU, and they have lectured at the Universities of Cape Town, Hong Kong, Birmingham (UK), and California.
